Forensic Gel Electrophoresis Lab
Goal: Run a gel and decide which suspect's DNA matches the Crime Scene lane.
How this works
- DNA pieces move through a gel: small fragments travel farther (toward the bottom).
- Each lane shows bands (sizes in base pairs, bp). The pattern is like a barcode.
- Compare the Crime Scene lane to the Suspect lanes. A match = same band positions.
Real forensics uses multiple STR markers and statistics. This is a simplified model for learning.
Student Tasks
- Press New Case. Read the case note.
- Press Run Gel. Watch the bands separate.
- Compare bands: Which suspect matches the Crime Scene?
- Write a brief conclusion explaining your evidence.
